The Windward Islands Cricket Board (WICB) with the support of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Cricket Association (SVGCA), partnered with the National Lotteries Authority (NLA) to successfully host World Cup T20 team – Nepal.

A T20 three-match practice series was played between Nepal and the Windward Islands’ cricket team on the 14, 16th & 18th of May 2024 at the Park Hill Playing field. The main purpose of the series was to allow Nepal an opportunity to get acclimatized to cricket-playing conditions in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

All matches were streamed live by a local television broadcaster – VC3 and were seen by thousands of people from across the world. During games, the beauty of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, carnival and the T20 World Cup activities were heavily promoted.

In the first two matches of the series, Nepal defeated the Windward Islands, however, the home team got the better of the visitors in the last match. The captain of Nepal, Rohit Kumar Paudel scored the most runs for his team – a total of 107 runs including 2 half centuries. In the bowling department, the captain was also the leading wicket-taker with six wickets. For the Windward Islands, Dillon Douglas scored the most runs with a total of 116 runs which also included 2 half-centuries. In the bowling department, fast bowler Nicklaus Redhead was his team’s leading wicket-taker with six wickets.

President of the Windward Islands Cricket Board, Mr. Dwain Gill, spoke about the importance of the practice series to the players, and the important relationship between the various Lotteries throughout the Windward Islands:
“…the players getting a chance to play against a World Cup team augured well for their personal development. The games also gave a good indication of what we need to work on for the CWI Regional Super 50 scheduled for later in the year…”. Relative to the sponsors, he said, “… Institutions like the NLA and WINLOTT contribute tremendously to our cricket, so we were happy to work with them to ensure a successful series. WINLOTT for example provides thousands of dollars in sponsorship money for our youth tournaments while the NLA is the main sponsor of cricket here in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.”

Nepal’s management also expressed its thanks to the WICB and all others involved in the facilitation of the matches. The team is scheduled to play two of its scheduled T20 World Cup matches at the Arnos Vale Sporting Complex on the 14th and 16th of June, 2024.
