Arnos Vale, St. Vincent – The Windwards Volcanoes have officially announced their squad for the opening fixture of the 2025 West Indies Championship. In the first round, the team is set to take on the Jamaica Scorpions at the Arnos Vale Playing Field from January 29 to February 1, 2025, with the second round being a day/night pink ball contest against Trinidad and Tobago Redforce at the same Arnos Vale playing field from February 5th – 8th beginning at 1:pm.

The squad features two newcomers, Kharmal Hamilton and Johnnel Eugene, who are making their debut appearances for the Volcanoes. The team will be led by Sunil Ambris, with Kenneth Dember as vice-captain.

Kavem Hodge and Alick Athanaze are unavailable for the team’s opening-round fixtures due to international duties. Additionally, Shamar Springer has been ruled out of contention for selection due to his recovery from an injury.

Head Coach Keon Peters expressed his confidence in the team’s preparation and readiness to start the season on a positive note. Reflecting on the hard work put in during the preseason, Peters said: “The team’s preparation has placed us in the right frame of mind. I am confident in the players’ ability to deliver the results necessary on the field, even when faced with difficult situations.”

Coach Peters also addressed the significance of starting the season with two home games, noting the dual pressures and motivations of performing in front of their supporters.”Playing at home is a two-factored situation. There’s always some pressure to do well in front of the home crowd, but it also provides the motivation to play to our full potential and secure good results. The energy within the camp is strong, and I’m optimistic about the season ahead,” he shared.

He concluded by encouraging fans to show their support.
“We urge our supporters to come out and rally behind the team this Wednesday as we take on Jamaica at the Arnos Vale Sporting Complex. Your support makes a difference.”
