Roseau, Dominica – St. Lucians are champions of the Winlott Windward Islands Under 19 tournament. With 43 points comprising of two outright wins, they lead the points standing in the 2-day format. Grenada with 39.6 points came second, followed by Dominica (23.2), and defending champions St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) on 16.4 points.

The tournament included a sensational century (130) with 10 fours and 5 sixes from Grenada’s captain Divonie Joseph against SVG. He was the MVP of the Grenada team. The other national MVPs were Tarrique Edward (St. Lucia), Edmund Morancie (Dominica), and Luke Wilson (SVG).

Divonie Joseph amassed the most runs with 193. Solomon Bascombe and Luke Wilson tied for the most wickets in the tournament (12 wickets). The best Wicketkeeper was Noel Leo, and Tarrique Edward was the best fielder. Each top performer has been awarded a bat by Winlott. 

A Steve Mahon-led selection panel selected the Windward Islands Under 19 team to participate in the upcoming regional tournament.

Mahon expressed his satisfaction with the 2-day tournament. “The youngsters generally gave a good account of themselves in a tournament that was quite competitive. In the end, we selected a well-balanced team for the upcoming tournament in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, where we expect these young men to excel and move forward to the next level.”

The West Indies Rising Stars Under 19 tournament will be played in August 2022 in SVG.

West Indies Under 19 captain Ackeem Auguste will captain the team in the regional tournament. He missed the just concluded tournament due to his selection in the West Indies Emerging program, which is ongoing in Antigua.
